Gotta Have It!

My last couple of runs have been.............well, painful.  My Achilles tendon/soleus area have felt SO tight while running.  To make it worse, if I try to walk to stretch it out or rest them, it just gets worse.  I was pretty much freaking out during today's run because I couldn't figure out if I was injured or just had tired, under conditioned legs.  If it was injury, running more wasn't a good idea - tired legs, I should push through.

So.....I decided it was tired legs and kept going.  When I stopped, my legs felt like they were going to spasm up on me - OUCH!  The cool-down walk back to the house was pretty rough.

I immediately stretched - a lot and then cooled down.  I probably should have, but I didn't ice my legs.  I just couldn't figure out what the heck is going on with my legs!  What are the odds that it just happens that both of my legs were injured in the same place at the same time - in my mind, not very likely.  So then WHAT could be wrong?

Then it occurred to me that dehydration can cause muscle cramping.  Hmmmm...... could it be???  Lets be real......  I am a habitual non-water drinker.  I mean, I do okay when I force myself to be aware, but I am not always great at being aware.  The bottom line is - runner or no runner - we NEED to drink water. And including the title of runner means that you need it just that much more.

I am not sure, but I am assuming that dehydration can contribute to injury.  I know I have read that it can cause harder runs and it can cause muscle cramps, so maybe, just maybe the answer to my problemo may be.....

Not sure what makes me think that......

Check this out..... it shows things water does for our bodies.

Wow!  Thirsty yet???

I've just recently recovered or am still recovering from tendonitis and found that rest for a bit helped and KTape for support during runs helped. Have you also tried compression socks or sleeves?
